It began last fall when three players missed fall practice due to shoulder surgeries and one player has been down a year with knee surgery. These four are having to use season game time to get back into game form. Last years 2nd team all conference catcher was unable to return for her sophmore year and the incoming catcher has missed this year due to illness. Last season's most used pitcher has missed most of this season due to arm problems. The Pirates top hitting outfielder has missed half of the season with a hamstring strain. One of the firstbase players was on crutches this time last season and also missed the fall recovering from knee surgery. Brooke Head (Central High) is expected to have a major impact on the 2011 season. Brooke adds strength at either corner and the catcher's position. Brooke was the Lady Pirate's first signing for next season. Signees Bridgette Bush, Brook Atkins, Laurie Jo White, and Kala Kirkland (Russell County High) all will bring loasds of offensive potential. Bush will join the pitching rotation. Atkins will give us depth at firstbase. White is a strong secondbaseman. And Kirkland also can handle either corner or the catching position. All of these ladies can add the long ball to our offense. Kala Colon (Central High) is a versitale player who can fit in with the infield or the outfield and is strongest at the plate. Brittany Forrest, shortstop, (Smiths Station High) is an all around ball player who can step in anywhere other than pitching. Forrest adds offensive and defensive depth to our program. Mallory Garmon (Edgewood Academy) is a great defensive catcher who has a command presence on the field. Then there is Crystal Nolin, shortstop, (Eufaula High) who is a hard nose player that can play anywhere to include pitching and catching. And recent signee Victoria Hull (Troup County High) is a big pick up at the pitching position.
