Lady Pirates are excited about this year's pitching

Expectations are high for the 2009 season. The Lady Pirates are returning five sophmores and have eighteen high sprited freshman. CVCC girls tie for third in Bronze Division

It will be three years before the Chattahoochee Valley Community College Lady Pirates have another opportunity to play in a National Fastpitch Coaches Association Leadoff Classic. It only takes place once every three years.
This past weekend, CVCC joined 23 other teams, including three from Alabama, at the event in Panama City, Fla. The Lady Pirates were 1-4 at the tournament, but finished in a tie for third place in the Bronze Division.
“There’s a lot of great competition at an event like this one. I’m glad we had the opportunity to participate. I wish we had done better, but I do think it will make us better in the long run,” said CVCC Coach Steve O’Steen.

Lady Pirates win Bronze Division in Aiken

It took more years than anyone would care to remember, but the Chattahoochee Valley Community College Lady Pirates fastpitch softball team finally brought home the gold – make that bronze.
Not once, until last weekend, throughout the history of the program had the Lady Pirates won a trophy. That dry spell ended last weekend when the team won the Bronze Division of the Ringor Fastpitch Invitational in Aiken, S.C.
“This is great. The girls have worked hard. They deserve this moment,” said CVCC coach Steve O’Steen after his team defeated Cleveland (Tenn.) State 9-1 in five innings to claim the trophy. “We’ve had a rough start to the season with the weather keeping us off the field until it was time to play. It took us a while to get going like I expected.”

CVCC Softball Camp a Success

The annual Chattahoochee Valley Community College Lady Pirates fast-pitch softball camp was a big success. With over 50 participants from ages 5 through 20, the event was held Saturday June 16 at the Lady Pirates' softball facility on campus. The girls participating were instructed in prepractice stretching, proper techniques of throwing, proper fielding techniques and instruction in hitting. At the camp's conclusion, the girls received a final lesson in sliding which turned into the most popular portion of the day. See photos of the final event in the Photo Gallery section.
